About the Course
I. RATIONALE
Business English is a compulsory course, which corresponds to the general training cycle of the Bachelor’s degree in Business, offered at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM). It is the fourth course in English as a Foreign Language Curriculum offered in PUCMM and the sixth course in the sequence constituted by ILE-103-T Basic English I, ILE-203-T Basic English I, ILE- 205-T English I, ILE-303-T English II, ILE-305-T English III, and the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) (in this case, ILE-491).
The course is offered in the seventh academic term, that is, the first term of the third year in this degree program. Due to the nature of the course, its exemption based on the results of the English placement test is not considered.
This advanced 56-hour course is designed for students to consolidate their communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This ESP course focuses on developing students’ lexicon relevant to the field of Business and on practicing English in the different situations they will encounter in their professional and social settings.
